Mary Magdalene
Claire Pingel’s book is a labour of love exploring the figure of Mary Magdalene as portrayed through art, biblical, apocryphal, and literary texts. These are the building blocks she uses as a foundation upon which to reconstruct the enigma that is Mary Magadalene. An often controversial and deeply revered figure who continues to elicit discussion, hope, love and hostility from her devotees and detractors. An aspect that Claire Pingel delves into and encourages the reader to form their own opinion from available research.
The academic sources are balanced by the inclusion of personal experience and gnosis, and the addition of practical exercises (pathworkings, meditations, affirmations, etc). There is also a useful bibliography from which the reader can continue further research and deepen their relationship with this multifaceted divine feminine.
It would take a far longer review to truly give an insight into what this book and its subject matter symbolise. I think many are aware of Mary Magdalene and her role in the mystery tradition, but need to dig deeper beneath the damaging propaganda of the early Christian Church motivated by fear of the feminine. That is my personal opinion only.
The book is worthy of purchase to start you on your personal journey.
